Class of 2015 OLB Carson Lydon Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have gotten off to a slow start to recruiting with only 4 commits so far in the Class of 2015. The Virginia Tech Class of 2015 is led by Mook Reynolds who is seen by some as a 4-star and is a guy that is continuing to rise up the boards with it being almost certain that he will be a 4-star by all of the major sites. The Hokies also have three other very solid 3-star players in the Class of 2015 in CB DuWayne Johnson, DL Harry Lewis, and DT Eric Whitehead. Now, the Hokies have added their fifth commit.

Outside linebacker Carson Lydon of East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs, Florida has become the Hokies fifth commit for the Class of 2015 and their first at the linebacker position. Carson Lydon has not received a grade yet from ESPN but both 247 Sports and Rivals have Carson Lydon as a solid 3-star prospect. Based on the 247 Sports composite rankings, Carson Lydon is currently seen as the 1067th best player and the 65th best OLB prospect in the Class of 2015.

However, Carson Lydon’s statistical production last season for East Lake High School as listed by 247 Sports is impressive and will have him climbing up recruiting boards if he can have another year of equivalent production or more. Carson Lydon had 159 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 3 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries which is a ridiclously strong stat line. Lydon’s high school production should definitely be a sign that Lydon has the talent to potentially be a very successful player for the Hokies.

Carson Lydon seems to have average size at 6-2 and about 230 pounds so Lydon is definitely a guy that has good zie for the position. ESPN has Lydon’s 40 yard dash time at 4.86 which is not very good right now but isn’t bad enough to be a major concern that it could inhibit his career. Lydon has good size already along with tons of high school success but the key will be improving his speed and then transitioning into a college player. Lydon has had tons of high school success and the Hokies will be hoping that he can translate that production to the collegeiate level.
