The Virginia Tech Hokies started building their recruiting Class of 2015 with 4-star defensive end Michael Barnett’s commitment which sent a message that the Hokies were ready to have a big year. Then, 3-star athlete Ashton White added his commitment which gave the Hokies a player likely to be a cornerback though wide receiver is also a possibility due to his speed. Three-star cornerback DuWayne Johnson was the most recent Virginia Tech player to commit and gave the Hokies their second player in the ESPN Jr. 300. The Hokies have continued to build and have gained their fourth commit and their second since their Junior Day.
Three-star cornerback Mook Reynolds from Northern Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina announced his decision to commit to the Hokies. Reynolds is giving the Hokies another very strong foundation on defense as the Hokies continue to bring in quality defensive backs. Reynolds also had offers from North Carolina, Duke, and East Carolina but the man from Greensboro has seemed likely to commit to the Hokies for a few weeks before confirming it right after the Hokies’ Junior Day.
Mook Reynolds seems likely to be in a dog fight with a whole bunch of cornerbacks when he gets to Virginia Tech and is likely a guy that will get redshirted or grayshirted. Reynolds does seem to have the potential to battle for playing time once he bulks up a decent amount as Reynolds does have a lot of the skills that you would want in a cornerback. Reynolds’s commitment also makes you wonder if athlete Ashton White might be seen as a wide receiver instead of a cornerback which would make this class look a little different if that is true.
One other thing about this commitment is the fact that defensive line coach Charley Wiles has been doing a great job on the recruiting trail for the Hokies. Wiles was able to get Michael Barnett for the Class of 2015 which was a big start to what is looking like a solid recruiting class so far. Reynolds is Wiles’s third commit this month as Wiles was also able to get Kevin Bronson and Isaiah Ford for the Class of 2014. Charley Wiles has been doing well on the recruiting trail recently and Mook Reynolds is the latest commit.
