Joey Slye Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have gained a committment in the last few weeks while also losing Brady Taylor to Ohio State after Taylor had been committed for a while. Now, the Hokies have some momentum as kicker Joey Slye from North Stafford High School in Stafford County, Virginia has committed to Virginia Tech. Slye had a scholarship offer from James Madison but Slye has decided to take his chance with the Hokies and take the walk-on offer from Frank Beamer and the Hokies.

Joey Slye is one of the top kickers in the state of Virginia and will now get a chance to work with the man who is in my opinion the best special teams coach in the nation, Frank Beamer. Slye joins Michael Santamaria as the two walk-on kickers in the Class of 2014 for the Hokies as btoh Slye and Santamaria will have the chance to probably compete for the starting kicker job next season. Slye is one of the top kickers in Virginia and the Hokies have once again shown their muscle within the state of Virginia by convincing Slye to be a walk-on in Blacksburg instead of taking James Madison’s scholarship offer.
