After the Hokies suffered a tough loss last weekend against Boston College, it was suggested by us that the Hokies should consider benching Jarell Eddie to try to get in his head about trying to get his teammates more involved in the game. Eddie has been taking too many bad shots which has been significantly hurting the chances of the Hokies to win in multiple games this year but it seemed unlikely since Eddie was the leading scorer.
However, James Johnson has made some lineup changes that were definitely unexpected.
Johnson has decided to bench Jarell Eddie and Ben Emelgou with Adam Smith returning to the starting lineup and Christian Beyer making his first career start. Emelogu not starting isn’t too much of a suprise as he has struggled and has played better coming off the bench. However, Jarell Eddie is a big surprise on the bench due to the fact that he is the leading scorer and a senior. You have to give James Johnson credit for taking a chance in benching the man who should be the Hokies’ top scoring threat. We’ll have to see what James Johnson’s plans are for his rotation against Notre Dame, especially with Eddie being benched.
