Virginia Tech fell to Duke yesterday by a score of 13-10. The Hokies saw their 6 game win streak come to end as a result of the loss. The main story of the game was the poor performance from the offense. They struggled the entire game to get anything going, and simply could not capitalize. The Hokies were bounced from the ap top 25, and are now being highly criticized.
Every week we talk about how important Logan Thomas’ play is, and Saturday demonstrated just that. Thomas was awful on Saturday. He threw for 214 and 4 interceptions. He was unable to throw any touch downs, but was able to run for 101 yards on the ground. Thomas was finally looking like he was over his inconsistency, but it that appears to be untrue at this point. Thomas isn’t the only reason Virginia Tech lost, but his play definitely affected the team.
Earlier in the week I talked about how important it was for Virginia Tech to get a run game going. The run game was no where to be found as Trey Edmunds only rushed 12 times for 44 yards. This was a major factor in the loss as they could never seem to get a rhythm going. It was obvious that the running issues were going to have an effect on Virginia Tech and it was shown against Duke.
Duke wasn’t dominate on offense, but they did enough. They got 6 points from Ross martin, who hit a 51, and 53 yard field goals. Also, Anthony Boone contributed to the win with 44 yards and a touchdown. Duke’s offense wasn’t that much better as Boone also threw 4 picks.
The loss against Duke is a major blow for the Hokies. Not only does it bump them from the ranks, but it makes them not look as dominant in the ACC. Now the Hokies will need to get a new game plan on offense. Logan Thomas can not be the only offensive player that is making an impact on the field. Someone else needs to step up and help him out. Now, the unranked Hokies will prepare for their next contest against Boston College.
