Virginia Tech played very well defensively against East Carolina which was the main reason why the Hokies beat the Pirates. Of course, the Virginia Tech offense was actually solid and the game really was not as close as the result suggested. However, one player caused that difference to be 5 points instead of double digits.

Cody Journell had probably the worst game of his collegiate career after missing 3 field goals (2 officially) and an extra point. The extra point Journell missed was just surprising and the first field goal attempt he missed was due to the fact that he just didn’t do a good job aiming the kick. The second field goal miss was when it started to look like Journell was completely rattled and really was struggling. The last field goal miss for Journell, which was the unofficial attempt, was quite possibly the worst field goal attempt I have seen in a while.

Now that may make it seem like Virginia Tech fans should be very concerned and on the edge of panicing about the struggles of Journell. However, that would be the exact wrong way for Virginia Tech fans to react to Journell’s bad game. Cody Journell has been a very reliable college kicker with only 8 misses in his previous two seasons while only missing 3 total extra points also before this season in his collegiate career. Cody Journell has been a very reliable kicker in the past and there is no reason for Tech fans to have any concerns just yet.
